The Rev. Monroe Butler was born in Mount Vernon, New York and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of nine and was baptized by the late Rev. Dr. Nelson; Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, New York. The family later moved to Stratford, Connecticut in 1943; along with his parent was lead by the Holy Spirit to unite with the First Baptist Church of Stratford under the leadership of Pastor Mays. Rev. Butler received his call to preach the gospel under the late Rev. Dr. William O. Johnson; in October 1983, Rev. Butler gave his initial sermon. He attended and graduated from the Connecticut School of Christian Religion, affiliated with Virginia Union School of Theology. Rev. Butler also attended Hartford Seminary and was certified for the Black Minister Certificate Program.
Rev. Butler was called to pastor the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut; where he served for 19 years before retiring from pasturing. He is now an Associate Minister of Friendship Baptist Church of Stratford, serving on the Ministerial Staff. Rev. Butler is a man that has been redeemed and a man that loves the Lord and a man that loves to preach.
